端午安康！May you have peace, health, sweetness, wealth and happiness. The children celebrated Dragon Boat Festival through singing and dancing of songs, making of the 粽子 (zong zi) also known as sticky rice dumplings on 14th June 2021.
The Dragon Boat Festival, which commemorates Qu Yuan, a third-century poet and political figure of the state of Chu in ancient China. We learnt about the history and practices of the festival through videos and stories. The children were also introduced to some of the main ingredients of the rice dumpling, as well as the purpose behind it. They helped to scoop and pour the toppings into the folded bamboo leaves before the teacher tied them up into triangular shapes. Additionally, the children were given a simple matching activity, and had fun challenging one another to a dragon boat race.
